About Flossenbürg
Flossenbürg is a small town in the Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany, near the Czech border, where the SS opened a concentration camp in May 1938. Between about 90,000 and 100,000 prisoners passed through the main camp and its subcamps, and some 30,000 died there or during its evacuation before the U.S. Army liberated it on 23 April 1945. The Lutheran pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was executed there on 9 April 1945, in the camp's final weeks.
