Christ the Lamb of God

Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world

Christ the Lamb of God presents Jesus as the sacrificial Lamb whose death takes away the sin of the world. In John's Gospel, John the Baptist points to him with these words, and the image recurs in Revelation and First Peter. The title draws on the sacrificial worship of Israel, casting Christ's self-offering as the true sacrifice. It is honored across Christian traditions and woven deeply into liturgy and hymnody.
