Magic the Egyptians counted not as trickery but as one of the forces that built the world.
Egyptians did not separate 'magic' from religion as we do. Heka was a genuine cosmic force, present at creation and used by the gods to make and sustain the world; it made spells, rituals, amulets, and medicine work. It was even personified as a god in its own right. Far from being disreputable, heka was a legitimate and essential power for protecting the living and the dead.
