Osiris as Lord of the Dead & Resurrection
The god who came back from death became the king the dead hoped to become.
Having been restored to life after his murder, Osiris became, in Egyptian belief, king and judge of the dead and the model of resurrection. Egyptians hoped to be identified with him after death — to become 'an Osiris' — and so to share his triumph over death. His cult center was Abydos, and his myth underwrote the whole promise of the Egyptian afterlife.
