The Tale of Sinuhe is ancient Egypt's most admired story. Its hero, the official Sinuhe, flees the country in fear when King Amenemhat I dies, builds a successful life among foreigners, yet aches to come home — for to an Egyptian, a proper burial in Egypt itself meant everything. The king at last welcomes him back. Though it names real kings, it is a work of literature exploring loyalty, identity, and homeland, not a historical record.
