Heter Me'ah Rabbanim (Permit of 100 Rabbis)

When a husband is unable to grant a divorce — for instance, if his wife cannot receive one due to mental incapacity — Jewish law provides a rare remedy: the "permit of a hundred rabbis," whereby a hundred rabbis from different communities authorize him to remarry. The high bar of a hundred signatories reflects how seriously the tradition guards the institution of marriage even when making an exception.
