The Bliss Sheath (Ānandamaya-Kośa)
The innermost veil: a bliss like deep-sleep peace — so close to the core it is mistaken for the self.
The ānandamaya-kośa is the 'sheath made of bliss' — the innermost and subtlest layer, a deep stillness and fullness like the peace tasted in dreamless sleep. It is so close to the core that it is easily mistaken for the true self, but in the classical analysis it is still a covering, the last veil before pure awareness. Kashmir Shaivism likewise warns the meditator not to stop at this profound stillness but to recognize the living awareness shining at the very center.
