Pure 'odor': the subtle essence of smell, last of the five subtle elements.
Gandha, as a tattva, is the subtle element of smell — the pure quality of odor itself, the bare 'smellableness' from which every actual scent in the gross world is made. The fifth and last of the subtle elements, it completes the set of fine sensory essences. From it the gross element of earth — the most solid and dense — unfolds.
