Chrysopolis
Chrysopolis was a town on the Asian shore of the Bosporus opposite Byzantium, on the site of the modern Üsküdar district of Istanbul, Turkey. Xenophon records that the Ten Thousand encamped there near the end of their long march, as told in the Anabasis. In 324 CE Constantine defeated his rival Licinius nearby, becoming sole ruler of the Roman Empire. In the Byzantine period the town lay within the orbit of Constantinople and had monasteries; the theologian Maximus the Confessor took monastic vows at the monastery of Philippicus there and later became its abbot.
