Princeton

United States

Princeton, New Jersey, in the United States, grew up around the College of New Jersey, founded in 1746 and moved to the town ten years later, now Princeton University. George Washington's forces won the Battle of Princeton there in January 1777. The town is also home to Princeton Theological Seminary, the oldest seminary of the Presbyterian Church (USA), and to the Institute for Advanced Study, founded in 1930, whose early members included Albert Einstein and Kurt Gödel and which J. Robert Oppenheimer later directed. Jonathan Edwards was briefly president of the college in 1758, and the Orthodox theologian Georges Florovsky later taught at the university.
