Cesena
Cesena is a city in Emilia-Romagna, northern Italy, co-capital of the province of Forlì-Cesena. Roman Caesena was a garrison town, and from 754 the city formed part of the papal domains. It prospered under Malatesta rule (1379-1465), when Malatesta Novello built the Malatestiana Library, described as Europe's first public library, and Cesare Borgia made it the capital of his duchy in 1500. Popes Pius VI and Pius VII were born in Cesena, and Pius VIII served as its bishop. The Torah commentator Obadiah Sforno was born in Cesena around 1475.
