Tisis (Feldkirch)
Austria
Tisis is a district of Feldkirch in Vorarlberg, western Austria. Feldkirch grew up around 1200 under the counts of Montfort, whose Schattenburg castle still overlooks the town, and it is today the seat of the Catholic diocese of Feldkirch. The astronomer Georg Joachim Rheticus, the only pupil of Copernicus and the man who persuaded him to publish his heliocentric theory, was born in Feldkirch in 1514. The Jesuits ran the Stella Matutina school in the town, which Hans Urs von Balthasar attended in his youth, and he later made his Jesuit novitiate at Tisis (1929-31).
