Kępnoקמפנו
Kępno is a town in the Greater Poland Voivodeship of Poland. It received town rights around 1283. Annexed by Prussia in 1793, it was known as Kempen under Prussian rule until it returned to Poland in 1920. Jews settled here in the seventeenth century, and in the nineteenth it was a Jewish shtetl, though most Jews left after 1850, many for Wrocław and Berlin. Samuel Holdheim, later a radical Reform rabbi in Berlin, was born here in 1806, and the Malbim was rabbi of Kempen from 1845 to 1859.
