Wismar
Germany
Wismar is a Baltic port in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, northern Germany, founded around 1226 and a member of the Hanseatic League from 1259. It was under Swedish rule from 1648 to 1803, and its old town was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with Stralsund in 2002. The Anabaptist leader Menno Simons lived there for a time in the early 1550s, and a gathering of Anabaptist elders in the town addressed questions of church discipline. The logician and mathematician Gottlob Frege was born in Wismar in 1848.
