uMgungundlovu
uMgungundlovu was the royal capital of the Zulu king Dingane, in the eMakhosini valley just south of the White Umfolozi River in present-day KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Dingane, who took power in 1828 after the assassination of his half-brother Shaka, built it in 1829 and enlarged it about five years later; it held some 1,400 to 1,700 huts. On 6 February 1838 the Voortrekker leader Piet Retief and about 100 members of his party were killed here on Dingane's orders. Part of the royal enclosure has since been rebuilt.
