Claudian

370 CE404 CE

Claudius Claudianus, known as Claudian, was a Latin poet of the late 4th and early 5th century CE, of Greek-speaking Egyptian origin, who became the leading court poet at the western Roman court under the general Stilicho. He wrote panegyrics and political poems on contemporary events, invectives against political rivals, and the unfinished mythological epic 'On the Rape of Proserpina.' He is often regarded as the last major classical Latin poet.
