Nepos, Cornelius

110 BCE25 BCE

Cornelius Nepos (c. 110-c. 25 BCE) was a Roman biographer and a friend of contemporaries such as Cicero and the poet Catullus. He wrote a collection of short biographies, 'On Famous Men,' of which the section on foreign (mainly Greek) generals largely survives, together with lives of Cato the Elder and of his friend Atticus. His clear, simple Latin made him a long-standing school author.
