The Spirit as Giver of Life and Sanctifier

The Creed names the Spirit the Lord and Giver of Life who makes believers holy

The Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed confesses the Holy Spirit as 'the Lord, the Giver of Life.' In Christian teaching the Spirit not only bestows spiritual life but works the believer's ongoing holiness, or sanctification, drawing the person toward God. This conviction is affirmed across all the major communions and expresses the Spirit's role as the one who animates, renews, and makes holy the people of God.
