Cassius Dio

165 CE235 CE

Cassius Dio (c. 165 - c. 235 CE) was a Roman senator and historian of Greek background from Bithynia in Asia Minor. Writing in Greek, he composed an enormous "Roman History" in eighty books, tracing Rome from its legendary founding down to his own time. Large portions survive, and his account is a principal source for the late Republic and the early Empire, valued especially for the perspective of a senator who himself held high office.
