The soul's homecoming: eternal blessedness in communion with God
Heaven is the state of eternal blessedness and communion with God enjoyed by the saved. The New Testament speaks of it throughout, and Augustine explored it in City of God as the goal toward which all longing tends. Far more than a place, it is understood as the fullness of life with God, the satisfaction of the human heart's deepest desire, and the final rest of those united to him.
