Valerius Maximus (active early 1st century CE, under the emperor Tiberius) was a Roman writer, author of the Memorable Deeds and Sayings, a collection of historical anecdotes and examples organized by moral and thematic topics. The work was intended as a handbook of illustrative material for orators and moralists and became widely popular in later centuries.
