Chukot HaGoyim (Statutes of the Nations)
The prohibition against imitating non-Jewish religious or hairstyle practices (Vayikra 18:3).
The Torah warns against adopting the "statutes of the nations" (Leviticus 18), which the tradition understands as a ban on copying genuinely idolatrous or distinctively pagan religious practices. Authorities long debated where the line falls between forbidden imitation and ordinary, neutral customs of the surrounding society — a question every Jewish community living among others has had to weigh.
