Sulam Yaakov (Jacob's Ladder)
The ladder vision (Bereishit 28) — read as Sinai, prayer, exiles, soul-ascent.
In a famous dream, Jacob sees a ladder set on the earth with its top in heaven, angels ascending and descending (Genesis 28). Generations of commentators read the ladder as a symbol — of the bond between heaven and earth, of prayer rising and blessing descending, of the rise and fall of nations, and of the soul's own climb toward God. It is one of the Torah's richest images of connection between the human and the Divine.
