Shehiyah (Pausing Mid-Slaughter)
Kosher slaughter must be one smooth, unbroken motion. If the slaughterer pauses even for an instant, the cut is no longer valid and the meat is not kosher — this is shehiyah, the first of five ways a slaughter can go wrong.
Pause for even a moment and the slaughter is invalid — the first of the 5 defects.
